Chanin Ballance, President & CEO
Ms. Ballance co-founded viaLanguage in 2000 and served as Chief Operating Officer and head of marketing before becoming CEO in 2003. She has multiple years of technology, language, business management and marketing experience. Under her leadership viaLanguage has grown to be one of the largest women-owned multilingual solutions companies in the country. She is constantly breaking ground on new technological landscapes, from mobile training solutions, machine and hybrid translation to customized multilingual product launches in 32 countries. Notable clients include Microsoft, Cisco, Disney, Intel, Walmart, Blue Shield of California and Kaiser Permanente.
Ms. Ballance is the recipient of the Portland Business Journal’s prestigious leadership award “40 Under Forty” and was recently selected for membership in AT&T Women Entrepreneurs’ Forum. She frequently speaks about global training solutions, multicultural marketing and multilingual solutions at venues such as American Marketing Association, the TAHIT Symposium on Language Access, Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development and many local entrepreneurial groups. She has also been published in prominent industry publications like iMedia Connection, Chief Marketer, MarketingProfs, Inside Healthcare, Healthcare Market Advisor, Marketing Healthcare Leaders, Inc. Magazine, World Trade Magazine, Oregon Business and more.
Previous to viaLanguage, Ms. Ballance co-founded The Language Company, a language and cross-cultural training school and translation service, where she was responsible for general management and finance and before successfully selling the school to Berlitz. Ms. Ballance earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Science from Marylhurst College and completed graduate work in Biochemistry at Portland State University. Additionally, she has completed executive management studies at Stanford Graduate School of Business. She has studied five foreign languages and has sat on the board of the American Marketing Association and Starve Ups, a non-profit entrepreneur group.

Nic McMahon, EVP Global Services
Mr. Nic McMahon has been at the forefront of localization strategy for the last 15 years where he has held senior management positions responsible for shaping the industry. Prior to viaLanguage, Nic served as the VP of Technology Solutions for Lionbridge, where he led the first deployments of Translation Workspace translation management software. From 2006-2008, Nic opened the US Operation for Jonkers Localization as their US General Manager. Prior to Jonkers, Nick served the VP of Global Solutions for SDL International where he was responsible for Enterprise Software (GCMS) and Service solutions as well as due diligence for a number of mergers and acquisitions. Nic is an active member of TAUS, serves on the LocWorld Conference Committee and regularly presents within formal localization training programs. He holds an honors degree from the University of Hertforshire (UK) in Business and Philosophy.
Chris Grebisz, EVP Technology & Strategy
Mr. Grebisz has over 20 years of experience as a leader in localization, learning and technology. Most recently, Chris served as the EVP of Product and Strategy at EIA Information Systems. Prior to EIA, Chris consulted for Google where he implemented initiatives such as "continuous localization operations model,” community-driven translations, as well as automated project management technologies. In addition, Chris served as the COO of Compli, where he managed their product redesign, channel development and operational performance. From 2002-2009, Chris was the COO of Welocalize, helping to scale the company from $5-30MM in revenue across the U.S., China, Japan, Germany and Ireland. Chris serves as the Board President of the Mt. Hood Ski Education Foundation and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Linfield College.

Scott Herber, EVP of Sales
Mr. Herber has more than 22 years of experience in progressively responsible sales and business development in software and electronics, focusing on enterprise applications and the healthcare vertical market. Prior to joining viaLanguage, Mr. Herber was Regional Vice President of sales for Kronos’ Talent Management division, where he led his teams to record increases in sales. His previous experience includes Vice President of Sales, Director of Business Development, Field Marketing, Sales Training and Human Resource Management with companies such as Eastman Kodak, Sequent Computers and IBM. He has lived and worked in Germany, France, the UK, and much of Asia. Mr. Herber holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Marketing and Management from the University of Portland, and has completed the Marketing Strategies for High Technology Companies at Stanford University. He has completed the I.L.E.E Spanish course for foreigners in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and has conversational command of German.
Darren Megarry, VP of Corporate Sales
Mr. Megarry has thirteen years sales and management experience in the software and electronics components markets with five years experience in channel sales. Prior to joining viaLanguage, he managed channel sales for PowerQuest Corp. in the UK, Ireland, and South Africa, selling Storage Resource Management software, image-based enterprise-wide desktop roll-out solutions, and consumer-based partitioning, imaging and back-up software. He was responsible for distribution accounts in the UK and Ireland and later managed internal direct sales at MuRata Electronics (UK), selling passive electronic components to national and multinational companies including Nokia, APC and Panasonic. A native of Winchester, England, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from Southampton University.
Julie Brink – Director of eLearning
Julie has more than 10 years of experience in training and development, from curriculum design and implementation to production and program management with an emphasis on sales training. Ms. Brink has developed, and implemented eLearning courseware and blended training programs for a vast client base, such as Cisco, Microsoft, Comcast, Nike, and The Pampered Chef. Her strong skill set in project and client management, while overseeing effective production processes and techniques, leads her and her team to deliver quality products on time that get kudos from very satisfied clients. Her previous experience includes curriculum development, implementation and management of academic, vocational, and job placement training programs for high-risk youth. Ms. Brink has been a member of the American Society for Training and Development since 2006 and was previously involved with Executive Women International for several years. Ms. Brink holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Management and Marketing from the University of Oregon and is enrolled in the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance partner program between Portland State University and ASTD.
Evelyn Toro, Director of Localization
Ms. Evelyn Toro has over 13 years of experience in localization in increasingly responsible roles within localization at several companies.
Most recently, Evelyn was Operations Manager, USA at Jonckers Translation & Engineering, helping to establish the US Portland office, overseeing production and customer satisfaction. Evelyn was instrumental in growing the Jonckers' US office by promoting a culture of leadership, teamwork, problem solving, creativity and commitment. With a focus on strategic solutions, Evelyn enjoyed her success as an Account Manager for SDL International, where she gained extensive knowledge in localization technologies helping customers implement best practices. Evelyn offers a unique blend of operational acumen and deep knowledge of customer service. Additionally, she co-founded and co-directed an English as a second language school in Talcahuano, Chile. Evelyn holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, Cum Laude in Spanish from the University of Louisville.
